DRV8312: Detection of missing BOOT_Cap

Part Number: DRV8312

Motor Gurus - one of my customers is wanting to know if there is a way to detect if one of their Boot-Caps is missing on their design (any one of the caps connected from the SW (OUT_A/OUT_B/OUT_C) node to the boot-pin (BST_A/BST_B/BST_C).

They apparently noticed that their unit had one boost cap missing and seemed to work at light loads... and failed at heavier loads.  Basically, they don't want to ship a defective unit if they can help it.

Thanks

  • Mark,

On a basic level, no, if the BST_UVP is not being triggered, we don't have a great way to detect this. The only thought we have is to intentionally leave the HS FET on for an extended duration and check the discharging of the BST node.
