DRV8873: iProp Question

Part Number: DRV8873

Regarding DRV8873, my understanding from the data sheet is that you can connect the 2 iProp lines together and their currents will add.  I have 3 DRV8873 where I use 6 half bridges and only run one at a time.  Can I connect all 6 iProp lines to one resistor?  I only need to sense one current because I only turn on one of the 6 half bridges at a time.

Thanks!

Brian Angiel

  • Hi Brian,

This should be possible, but there may be some constraints. We will investigate and should have an answer by Wednesday next week.

Do you intend to have the 3 DRV8873s awake (nSLEEP high) when operating one half bridge?
  • Hi Rick,

Yes, all 3 are tied to the same nSleep control and all 3 are tied to a separate Disable control from the MSP432. The nSleep would be low when none of the 3 DRV8873 are needed. The disable would go low once the SPI registers are set to turn on the single half bridge. After that I have the choice of using an input or software to toggle the output.

    Thanks,
    Brian
  • Hi Brian,

The design team confirmed the configuration should work, as long as all three devices are powered at the same voltage and awake.
Since all 3 are tied to the same nSLEEP, there should be no problem.
