Suggest a driver which provides an array of 64 outputs in which each capable to deliver max of 400mA, 40V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ULN2003A, TPS4H000-Q1, CD4066B

Hi,

We need to design a printer head driver with 64 output channels in which each channel should be able to source max of 400mA, 40V. Our plan is to implement digital logic like shift register and Latch in FPGA and design 64 output channels which require a lot of Mosfet inverter configuration. Right now, we are looking for chip solution for 64 output channels. Attached is the single output channel circuit which provides 200-400mA,VH -40V, the same has to reproduce for other 63 output channel. Please suggest...

Thanks,

Muthu

  • Hi Esakkimuthu,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

The closest equivalent from a switch perspective is the ULN2003A (7-ch) or the ULN2803A (8-ch). Both devices are low side drivers that can handle 40V, 400mA. Are there any other requirements that the devices need to pass?

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • Hi Arthur,

Thank you very much...Is there any solution with Mosfet inside the chip instead transistor and a serial interface between FPGA and driver to tell which channel to make high and low?

P.S: Alignment got changed for my first post. I have corrected it.

    Thanks,

    Muthu

  • Hi Muthu,

For 40V @ 400mA, the best solution we have is the TPS4H000-Q1. None of our solutions currently have a serial interface, but each channel has an enable pin to turn the channel on/off and additional pins for diagnostics and current sensing.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • Hi Arthur,

Thanks. We want a driver like L2293Q 4-channel push-pull driver. Though it has no serial interface, we are okay to go with it.

Q1: Do u have any similar solution with more number of channels?

As u can see in the attached diagram, there is 2-transmission gate in the right side, the left side is 4-analog switches in the push-pull configuration which can use a solution like L2293Q.

Q2: Do u have any chip solution for transmission gate?

    Please suggest...

    Thanks,

    Muthu

  • Hi Muthu,

Unfortunately, from a peripheral driver aspect, we don't have anything similar to the L2293Q that can work as a transmission gate. Would something like the CD4066B work instead?

    Thanks,
    Arthur Huang
  • Hi Arthur,

Thanks. We can use a kind of C4066B in our application. With C4066B, it has low switching voltage range 3-20V, and low Switching current (Max current over switch ), probably not more than 10mA. Our application requires that switching voltage range of up to 50V and Switching current (Max current over switch ) up to 500mA...Is there any solution? Please suggest...

    Thanks,

    Muthu

  • Hi Muthu,

I'm looping in a member of our Standard Logic team to comment if we have another replacement to the C4066B.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang
  • Hey Arthur and Muthu,
No, there aren't any logic families designed for 500mA/50V operation. Logic typically operates under 32mA/5V, with the only exception being the CD4k family which support ~1mA/18V. You will need external drivers such as the ULN2003A or individual power MOSFETs.
