DRV8302: Operation above 40V

Part Number: DRV8302

The DRV8302 is listed as having a maximum operating voltage of 60V; we have been using the part for some time and recently have increased the bus voltage. We've noticed that the hotel load for the chip is very small below 36-38V (10-20mA), but once the voltage increases above 39V or so, the amount of current the part draws increases significantly (200-350mA). Furthermore, there is a significant initial current draw on startup  (1-2A) that lasts for about a second before slowly settling down to a steady state draw of 300mA .

We were at one point using the internal regulator to regulate to 5V, but have disabled it via the EN_BUCK pin for these tests.

Is there any reason that this should be the case? Is there anything we can do to lower the amount of current draw at 42V?
