DRV8876: IPROPI pin question

Part Number: DRV8876

Hi team,

My customer has a question regarding to pin IPROPI. If the resistor opens, what's the maximum voltage does IPROPI pin will hit, since it's a current source inside and huge impedance outside?

I also noticed page 4 of datasheet mentioning 2 maximum pin voltage: 1) 5.75V; 2) VM+0.3V; I wonder what condition are the two data referring to?

  Thanks.

Regards,

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

The IPROPI pin clamps to the VREF voltage if there is a high impedance on the IPROPI output. This is explained in the datasheet on top of page 10.

In the Absolute Maximum Ratings table, I believe the first IPROPI specification is when VM > 5.75 V. If VM drops below 5.75 V, then IPROPI will be damaged if the pin voltage is 0.3 V higher than VM. This should only be an issue if you are forcing a voltage on that pin during those conditions. A normal use-case condition will not force a voltage on that pin.
