DRV8305: latency for switching modes from 1 PWM to 6

Part Number: DRV8305

My customer uses the DRV8305 with 1 PWM mode. The intent is to be more aggressive when braking, so the idea is to switch to 6-PWM signal on-the-fly, while still running the motor. Do you see any problems with that? What is the latency we should expect?

Thank you!

  • Lenio,

I am asking the team about this and will get back to you soon.

  • Lenio,

The PWM mode bits in the register map do not have a dependency on motor rotation so yes they can be changed with the motor spinning. This being said, the customer should monitor their output signals for any unexpected behavior as we don't test the device like this.

The logic will start interpretting the INX_X pins as 6x input when the nSCS pin goes high after the SPI transaction setting the PWM mode.
