DRV8312: Control system development for BLDC motor (Movie camera Gimbal)

Part Number: DRV8312
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8323R

Dear All,

we are designing Gimbal for heavy payload movie camera (25KG). we have to develop a control system for speed and position and also motor driver for EC-90 flat motor (from Maxon).

planning to DRV8312 as driver for EC-90 motor, and piccolo  F2805x Experimenter Kit for control system development and InstaSPIN-MOTION technology.

please share your comments and suggestions.

thank you

  • Reddy,

Do you have a question around this?

    Regards,

    -Adam
  • Hi Adam,

yes, i need more clarity on the selected components (Microcontroller, driver IC).

the developing gimbal system has to handle 25KG's of payload (movie camera), it is 3 axis gyro stabilized system.

we are planning built from the scratch using the best available Maxon motor (EC-90) and motor features are

    Nominal Voltage

    24 V

    No load speed

    3190 rpm

    No load current

    538 mA

    Nominal speed

    2590 rpm

    Nominal torque (max. continuous current)

    444mNm

    Nominal current (max. continuous current)

    6.06A

    Stall torque

    4940 mNm

    Stall current

    70 A

    Max. efficiency

    83%

    Terminal resistance

    0.343 Ω

    Terminal inductance

    0.264 mH

    Torque constant

    70.5 mNm/A

    Speed constant

    135 rpm/V

    Speed / torque gradient

    0.659 rpm/mNm

    Speed / torque gradient

    0.659 rpm/mNm

    Speed / torque gradient

    0.659 rpm/mNm

with the planetary gear ratio of

    Gear Ratio

    26:1

    Torque Produced

    25Nm

we have to develop a driver system for motor and control system to control 3 axis gyro stabilization. (3-axis gyro sensor will be used).

so we need some input for driver board and control system development.

please help us regarding the same.

    thank you

    Reddy

  • Reddy,

I would order the DRV8312-C2-KIT, this should also be compatible with the F2805x Experimenter Kit but I am not certain.

A newer device such as the DRV8323R may be beneficial. This uses external FETs but it does have current sense amplifiers for each phase built in as well as a buck regulator which can be used to power your other lower voltage board circuitry. We do have an EVM available for this as well.

    Regards,
