Asking for the motor driver recommendation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8847, DRV777

Hi team,
customer is looking for the motor driver solution. the attachment is the motor driver spec.
Would you please suggest the proper solution?

  • SHH,

This is a stepper motor, not BLDC, I will move your post to the BSM side.

  • Hi SHH,

This is a 5 wire unipolar stepper, so the choices are limited. Below are three possible options assuming the system voltage is 5V.

The DRV8847 can be used in independent mode (see Table 6 of the datasheet). The inputs should be set to 0 to have current flow through the output and to 1 to recirculate the current.

Another choice is the DRV777, but you need at least two to meet the current requirements of the stepper. At least three outputs will have to be placed in parallel to reach the 333mA.

The ULN2003 is the third alternative (See figure 22 of the datasheet).

The DRV777 and ULN2003 have internal recirculation diodes, which match up the 5 wire stepper.

If the system has 12V and 5V, other options become available but the price of DRV777 or ULN2003 will be hard to beat.
