DRV8320: What're the difference between DRV8320H and DRV8350H for gate drive supply?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV832X

I found there is difference on VM supply configuration for DRV8320H and DRV8350H. The VM of the DRV8350H can be configured by either using single supply or dual supply. WHen using the dual supply, the gate drive voltage can be adjusted optimized to reduce the switching losses, right?

Can VM of the DRV8320H be configured to Dual supply also?

My customer would ike to use the DRV8320H for motor application with high freq(50KHz above) due to size constrain, but they worried the dissipation problem by the switching losses would be happened. Any comments?f Thanks.

Brian

  • Brian,

The DRV835x VCP reference is VDRAIN, so therefore VM can be lower to reduce the internal losses.

The DRV832x uses VM for it's reference so it is recommended that VM and VDRAIN be the same voltage. Unfortunately VM cannot be run lower than VDRAIN.
