BOOSTXL-DRV8301: How to do sensored position control with the LAUNCHXL-F286069M and BOOSTXL-DRV8301

Part Number: BOOSTXL-DRV8301

The LAUNCHXL-F286069M supports position control, but it is not clear in the literature what booster board to use specifically for position control. The BOOSTXL-DRV8301 is designed for sensorless control. I already have the LAUNCHXL-F286069M and the BOOSTXL-DRV8301. Can use the BOOSTXL-DRV8301 and disable the sensorless capabilities, then input the position signals into the LAUNCHXL-F286069M ?

I am a beginner, any extra info on coding how to do this would be helpful.

  • Robert,

Sensorless cannot simply be disabled. Which motor are you trying to use with this?

  • I want to be able to use it with a variety of different motors and sensors, because I am training myself to program motor control. I want to learn all kinds of motor control such as position, torque, impedance, regenerative braking. Currently I have a motor off a kids hoverboard. It is 3 phase brushless with some hall sensors. I was planning to add a rotary encoder, but also curious to play with sine/cosine hall sensors.

  • Robert,

Position, Torque, etc are all topics for the control side which the C2000 team manages. They have lots of documentation on this. Please lookup Instaspin, Instamotion, etc. You can post on the C2000 forum for help.

We can help here with gate driver selection once you have the control side figured out with the C2000 team.
