DRV10983: Zener diode

Hi team,

Our customers are testing DRV10983Z, and have below questions about the Zener diode. 

  1. What's the function of the diode? 
  2. Datasheet recommends 4V Zener Voltage (3.3V Vreg mode). Can they choose a higher Zener voltage diode?
  3. If not using sleep mode, can they omit the diode from circuit?

    1) Function of the diode is to limit any voltage spikes on the Voltage regulator that we've seen when the part goes to sleep.
    2) We strongly recommend 4V Zener. However, at your own risk, you can use a higher voltage diode as long as you can make sure that the voltage on the Vreg pin is not greater than absolute max of vreg (7V).
    3) If you dont use the sleep part, you will not need the zener diode.
