DRV8353RS-EVM: Unable to adjust IDRIVE

Hi Team,

DRV8353RS-EVM and the GUI is used to control motor, but when the GUI connects with DRV8350RS-EVM successfully and "System Enable" is enabled, we cannot change the IDRIVE, even another current option such as 1000mA for IDRVEP_LS[7:4] is choosed and then write register is clicked, the current cannot be changed.

My question are:

1. Why IDRIVE cannot be changed? Is it possible that the C2000 code set the IDRIVE fixed?

2. When we "Lock all registers", why other registers can be set? It doesn't match the datasheet...

Could you please help answer the two questions, thanks!

Hao,

This is intentional. The IDRIVE has been selected to match the parameters of the FETs which are installed on the EVM. The IDRIVE is locked for the EVM GUI and EVM hardware.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for confirming. Another two questions:

1. Why other registers can still be set when "110b" is written into bit 10-8 of 0x03h register?

2. When there is fault in 0x00h, can we still set new values to other registers? My experiments shows that new values can be written when the charge pump is in fault.

Hao,

The GUI may send values but if the registers are locked, the device should not accept them. In other words a readback should not give the values previously written when the DRV registers were locked except a write to unlock the registers.

A fault does not block register writes.

Hi Adam,

Thanks! The last question, when the register is set, there should be some time delay until the DRV8350RS goes into effect . Could you please tell the time delay? Will it be within nanosecond?
