DRV8805: Pin out description confusion

Part Number: DRV8805

Hello,

I am looking to implement the DRV8805 on a board as a replacement for an obsolete chip. There is some confusion regarding the pin-out for this chip, as addressed here:

e2e.ti.com/.../550281

At the bottom of that thread, there is a modified figure 7, which shows that OUT1 and OUT 3 should be connected across one of the windings and OUT 2 and OUT 4 across the other. My question is, should I still use the pin-out description as given on page three of the data sheet? To be specific, should I connect pins 3 and 8 across one of the windings and pins 4 and 9 across the other? Or should I wire as shown in the modified figure 7, with pins 3 and 4 across one winding and pins 8 and 9 across the other?

I am using the 20-Pin SOIC package.

Regards,

Sean McKee

  • Hello Sean,

I took a look at the thread you have linked in this post. In order to avoid any future confusion, I suggest you connect the windings according to the modified figure 7 with OUT1/OUT3 (pin 3/8) to one winding and OUT2/OUT4 (pin 4/9) to the second winding. Configuring it this way will ensure that the wiring matches with the excitation tables shown on section 7.4.1 on the datasheet. Thank you.
