DRV110: Max I_peak and I_hold

Expert 1570 points
Part Number: DRV110

Hi,

We would like to work with DRV110 @ peak current of 2.5A, and hold current of 1.5A.

Is this possible? From the datasheet eq.2 and 3 it is unclear what Rsense should be.

If it is possible, can you please recommend Rsense?

We are going to use DAC instead of the Rpeak and Rhold.

DAC voltage is 0-1V.

Do we still need Rpeak and Rhold if using a DAC to limit the current?

if so, what are the values?

Thanks a lot

  • Hi Ari,

    My recommended Rsense is 0.075ohm.

The Rsense voltage range needs to be:

    During hold: 5mV to 150mV : Rsense:: 0.003ohm to 0.1ohm

During peak: 30mV to 900mV: Rsense: 0.012ohm to to 0.360ohm

Rsense range is 0.012ohm to 0.1ohm

I picked 0.075ohm to get close to the max limit to avoid noise issue

Yes you need resistor  between the DAC and hold/peak pin to set the current for the comparator, ideally R=66.67kohm. If DAC output starts from 0, this will be the max current

  • Thanks a lot Costin!!

We purchased the DRV110 kit so will try that soon.
