Hello!
I noticed DRV8836 block diagram shows the body diodes of the internal FETs. Are these diodes meant for taking the brunt of the back EMF or will we need to use external diodes to take care of the voltage spike caused by turning off a coil? While we plan to use the ‘Brake’ function at the end of energizing the coil to take care of the back EMF, we would still like to add some other protections in case this does not work properly.
So considering the case of simply going from driving the coil to the sleep mode where the FETs turn off, would the diodes internal to the DRV8836 survive? Should we count on these diodes to happily take the brunt of the back EMF and keep working?
Thank you!
