BOOST-DRV8711: Stall detection either always on or never on

Part Number: BOOST-DRV8711

Hello, I've been using the BOOST-DRV8711 stepper motor controller for some time and haven't been able to make the stall detection function properly. No matter what settings I use, the stall LED will either turn completely on every single step, or never turn on even if run into a stall. The motor I am working with is a Haydon Z26000 Series 1" Can-Stack Stepper Motor. The registers are currently set to:
ctrl          0C10
torque     01FF
off           0030
blank      0080
decay     0110
stall        0040
drive       0A59
Although, I've tried various configurations, especially with VDIV, SDTHR, and SDCNT. The SDTHR seems to either be too sensitive or not sensitive enough, no matter what combination of VDIV and SDCNT I use.
