DRV8812: Reliability of our motor drivers

Part Number: DRV8812

Hi Team,

I received a question from one of my customers where they are using our DRV8812. They are asking how our motor drivers will be affected reliability wise if the input logics (like PWM, Vref, etc) will have voltages on them while the supply voltage is turned off. This happens when their product enters sleep mode where they turn off the supply of the drivers, but they noticed that some of their input logics are still on when this happens.

Can you advise if this will be healthy for our drivers?

Thanks!

Best Regards,
Alfred

  • Hi Alfred,

There are no reliability concerns if the inputs have voltages while the supply voltage (VM) is turned off.

If possible, it is recommended to set the inputs low when VM is turned off. This will reduce power consumption through the internal pulldown resistors.
