DRV8873: about CP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8873

Hello E2E,

Our customer is using the DRV8873 on their product. Please see the attached file. The around analog circuit is taking a power supply voltage from charge pump of DRV8873. Some DRV8873 are damaged. Is it undesirable to supply power from CP?

We checked each pins, there was no problem with them. I think that internal power block has damaged.

ACGUY

  • Hi ACGUY,

The circuit should work as long as the Analog supply voltage is ~VM + 4V.

Was the DRV8873 damaged prior to adding this circuit?
Is it possible to provide external power to the external circuit and run the system. This would help determine if the analog circuit is causing the damage?
What is Analog Circuit attached to the VCP?
What is the current requirement of the analog circuit during power up?
Can you capture the current on a scope?

    What are the SPI settings?

  • Hello Rick,

    Thank you for your reply.

    >> Was the DRV8873 damaged prior to adding this circuit?
-> The device has been damaged during normal operation.

    >> Is it possible to provide external power to the external circuit and run the system.
-> I will confirm it to customer.

    >> This would help determine if the analog circuit is causing the damage?
    -> Maybe.

    >> What is Analog Circuit attached to the VCP?
-> That is OPAMP for current sensing cicuit of another circuit.

    >> What is the current requirement of the analog circuit during power up?
-> I will confirm it to customer.

    >> Can you capture the current on a scope?
-> I will confirm it to customer.

    What are the SPI settings?
-> I will confirm it to customer. (however, I don't think it's relevant for damage.)

  • Hi ACGUY,

    Do you have any updates?

  • Hello Rick,

I'm sorry for the late answer.
I requested some checking items customer, unfortunately customer changed motor driver from TI to Sanken. They said "Sanken will not break".
    I could not protect TI's.

    Sorry.

  • Hi ACGUY,

Thank you for the update. I would like to discuss this with you further privately.
