DRV8803: current limitation

Part Number: DRV8803

Hello,

The DRV8803 datasheet mentions a current limitation threshold set between 2.3A and 3.8A:

In the application measurement, the figure 10 shows an overcurrent peak of about 5A.

Can you confirm the current limitation value of internal FETs ?

Best regards,

Lionel

  • Hi Lionel,

The current limit is 2.3A min. This means after the blanking time, any current above the Iocp limit (varies from 2.3A to 3.8A per device) will cause an overcurrent fault.

Figure 10 is a good example of section 7.3.2.1, showing the current on the FET is limited by removing the gate drive. As the current exceeds the overcurrent limit, the gate drive is decreased to reduce the current.
