DRV8813: Why we need to to use the 1Mohm resistor here?

Part Number: DRV8813

Hi team,

Why we need to to use the 1Mohm resistor here?  Thanks.

  • Frank,

That 1Mohm resistor is optional for DRV8813 (the part was developed before 2015. After 2015, that 1Mohm has been integrated into driver IC). It can immediately discharge the charge pump capacitor voltage which can make sure the high FET is immediately turned off when the IC runs into sleep mode.

If not, the high side FETs can be turned on when the IC runs into sleep mode until the charge pump capacitor voltage is discharged. Both high side FETs are turned which makes the motor operating in brake mode (short the motor winding and hard to spin the motor). If customers don't want to drive the motor externally after running into sleep mode, they don't need this resistor.
