DRV8872: Inductive Load Connection on Output Terminals

Part Number: DRV8872

For OUT1 & OUT2 terminals, per datasheet it says "Connect directly to the motor, or other inductive load". For EMC related issues, if inductors are put in series from the two output terminals to the pump terminals, what would the impact to pump driving performance considering the pump is a inductive load anyway?

  • Hi Ed,

This depends on the pump inductance/resistance versus the series inductance/resistance.

If the pump inductance/resistance is much greater than the series inductance/resistance, there would be minimal impact.

Adding series inductance could also help reduce any inrush current if the pump motor has a capacitor across the terminals.
