DRV8313: Understanding RMS/Peak current and Current limit

Part Number: DRV8313

The datasheet says 'High Current-Drive Capability: 2.5-A Peak'. However, I'm unable to find much more about the output capabilities.

  • The simplified schematic on the cover page shows 3.5A, which I assume must be an error
  • Table 6.1 - absolute max ratings shows Peak output current (OUTx) as "Internally Limited"
  1. What is the current limit. Is it 2.5A?
  2. How is this limit being defined? Is it RMS or absolute peak?
  3. Does the trip current calculation relate to the "internally limited" current limit?

Thanks,
Nick
