DRV8813: open load response and recovery

Part Number: DRV8813

How does the DRV8813 respond to an open load condition, e.g. one or both phase outputs get disconnected from the target motor?

Does the nFAULT output activate?

Then, how does the DRV8813 respond / behave if the motor is reconnected?   Can it "self-recover" and continue running the motor based on the input controls, or does it need its nRESET pin toggled, or ??

thanks

  • Hi Gregg,

The DRV8813 outputs remain enabled if one or both phase outputs get disabled disconnected.

This is not considered a fault condition, so nFAULT does not activate.

When the motor is re-connected the outputs may be disabled (and nFAULT assert) if the current exceeds the overcurrent limit. If nFAULT asserts, the outputs can be reset by toggling nRESET or nSLEEP (which simulates cycling VM).
