Part Number: DRV8818

The customer is thinking to use DRV8818PWP for medical equipment, Cataract surgery device. Cataract surgery device is "Class-III Medical equipment" by Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF). Is there any concern to use DRV8818 for this kind of Class-III medical equipment? Or is there any special condition to use it under medical?

  • Hello Shinde-san,

If you click on the link "http://www.ti.com/legal/termsofsale.html", found on the last page of the DRV8818 datasheet, and then click on your region, you will find the Terms of Sales.

In section 9.5 of the Terms of Sales, it says that:

"Buyer may not use any Products in life-critical medical equipment unless authorized officers of the parties have executed a special contract specifically governing such use. Life-critical medical equipment is medical equipment where failure of such equipment would cause serious bodily injury or death (e.g., life support, pacemakers, defibrillators, heart pumps, neurostimulators, and implantables). Such equipment includes, without limitation, all medical devices identified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as Class III devices and equivalent classifications outside the U.S."
