DRV8832: FAULTn signal

Part Number: DRV8832

The FAULTn signal is asserted after leaving the SLEEP mode,

but can we assume from the data sheet that FAULTn is not asserted when entering FORWARD/REVERSE modes from BRAKE mode and vice-versa?

Before committing to a PCB please can this be verified by TI?

many thanks

Tim

  • Hi Tim,

Yes, this can be assumed. Once the device is awake, FAULTn will assert for undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, and potential stall conditions as described in section 7.3.5 of the datasheet.

If you want to verify your application further, the DRV8832EVM is available for experimentation.

Also, please note the DRV8832 was designed to be used without PWM'ing the inputs. The internal logic will PWM the outputs using a slow ramp that can take up to 12ms. Please refer to section 7.3.2 for details.

  • Thanks Rick,

Yes I choose this device as it appeared to be the simplest answer with the PWM integrated.

    every blessing
