DRV2700: The solution to drive 6uF piezo

I would like to ask you to tell me the solution of DRV2700 to drive 6uF/100Hz piezo.

I know that it is not possible for DRV2700 to drive 6uF.

Will you tell me the application circuit of DRV2700 to drive 6uF, if possible?

Hi, Suzuki-san,

You are right, the DRV2700 cannot handle this kind of loads.

Could you take a look at the LM48580, please? This device is designed for 6uF piezo loads and all the electrical characteristics were taken with 6uF load.

To my regret, the device does not meet my specification, because I need 150V/100Hz out at least.

That is to say, I need 150V/100Hz out and need to drive 6uF piezo load.

Let me ask you one more question, please.

There is "PVDD" pin for providing high voltage to "OUTPUT amp block".

Instead of using "BST" of DRV2700, can we use external "DC/DC converter" output(150V/0.5A) to provide?

Hi, Suzuki-san,

Yes, it is possible to use the DRV2700 with an external supply/DC-DC converter. You just need to disable the internal boost with the steps below.

- Remove inductor from SW to VDD

- SW=GND

- BST (separated from PVDD)=Open

- Cboost will be filtering cap for PVDD

- Remove feed-back resistor and connect FB to VDD

After this configuration, you can connect PVDD to the external supply.
