DRV8885: FMEA analysis - decay and step size pins left open

Part Number: DRV8885

My customer is creating a FMEA document and wants to know what happens when the decay mode and step size pins are left open. Table 2 of the datasheet is specific about M0, which is great, but has no mention about M1. For the decay pin, the datasheet is specific about its behavior when shorted to ground, but it does not determine what happens when it is left open. Could you please comment on that?

Thank you!

  • Lenio,

Even the step size setting pins M0/M1 are left open, the internal pull-up/down resistors can still give a stable voltage on  M0/M1 pin.

M1 has pull-down.  MO has both pull-up and pull-down. Similar as Decay pin, the pull-up current source can give a stable high voltage (slow decay setting) when the Decay pin is open.

  • Lenio,

The Decay pin internal 22uA pull-up source will drive the Decay pin to DVDD when it is floating.
