  • Hi!

Please take a look at my answers for details about it.

1.what is the size about DRV2605EVM-CT

    The DRV2605EVM-CT dimensions are 5.9cm x 11.5cm.

2.how is the function of B1-B4 realized? piezoresistive or capacitive?

    These are capacitive functions.

3.can it be powered by lithium battery?

The DRV2605EVM-CT can be operated by external batery such a lithium battery. It supports an external battery/power supply range from 2.5V to 5.5V.

    4.is the haptic scene fixed.

The EVM haptics actuators are fixed in the actuators zone. But you can connect your own actuators to the board to the "OUT" connector.

5.how can I get the waveform library?

The Waveform library is already integrated in the DRV2605L as mentioned in the User's Guide. You can find all the 123 supported waveforms in section 2.4:

  • Hi Luis,

    1.What is the height?

2.It's a little big,is there a demo board with the same function and small size recommended?

3.Is the waveform library also already integrated in the DRV2605EVM-CT?

4.Is the haptic effect of waveform fixed?Do we need to adjust the corresponding waveform by ourselves or is the waveform you adjusted?

  • Hi,

    1.What is the height?

    It is 1.7cm

2.It's a little big,is there a demo board with the same function and small size recommended?

Unfortunately, no. This is the only board that we have to evaluate the DRV2605.

3.Is the waveform library also already integrated in the DRV2605EVM-CT?

Yes, it is. Actually, there's an available GUI that you may use for evaluation purposes. This GUI can be used to program all the features of the DRV2605.

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou502a/slou502a.pdf

However, you would require an additional tool for operate it. The USB2ANY tool:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/USB2ANY

4.Is the haptic effect of waveform fixed?Do we need to adjust the corresponding waveform by ourselves or is the waveform you adjusted?

The waveform is already fixed, the library is already designed to generate the preconfigured effects on either the LRA or ERM load. You can only adjust the amplitude level with the rated voltage or the OD_CLAMP parameters.

  • Hi Luis,

1.Does it need to update FW? how do I get the FW?

2.How do I get the GUI software?

3.Can I via a USB connect to a computer to control an EVM?or must to via tool(USB2ANY) to control?

  • Hi,

1.Does it need to update FW? how do I get the FW?

The firmware needs to be updated for some features that don't involve the GUI. For example, the Mode 1 and Mode 30 of Binary Counting Modes sometimes freeze the EVM if the last firmware is not used. We recommend to use the GUI with the USB2ANY tool in order to avoid a firmware modification and use all the options of the DRV2605.

If you are still interested in update the firmware, please consult the section 6 of User's Guide for details:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou348b/slou348b.pdf#page=22

2.How do I get the GUI software?

It can be found in the EVM product folder.

    http://www.ti.com/tool/DRV2605EVM-CT

Please go to the software section to download it. It is named Haptic Control Console.

3.Can I via a USB connect to a computer to control an EVM?or must to via tool(USB2ANY) to control?

Unfortunately, you would need of this USB2ANY tool in order to use the EVM with the PC. Only few EVM boards from the haptics drivers family can be used without the USB2ANY tool:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou502a/slou502a.pdf#page=2

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis

If without the USB2ANY,can I use the DRV2605EVM-CT?  What is only few EVM boards?

If let the DRV2605EVM-CT can work, what conditions are needed?

Do you have a contact information?

  • Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, all the EVM boards can be used without the USB2ANY tool. As mentioned in their respective User's Guides, they have multiple demo modes. However, if you would like to configure the DRV2605 by yourself and test more specific functions, you can use the USB2ANY and the GUI.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Luis

    Thank you for your reply.

1.Can different voltage and time waveforms be played continuously?

    2.We want to simulate some haptic effects,such as fishing,racing,drinking water,throwing plugs,eating chicken,shooting,explosion,and so on.can I choose these waveforms?

  • Hi,

1.Can different voltage and time waveforms be played continuously?

Yes, they can, but you would need the GUI in order to play them. The EVM has limited waveforms in demo mode as mentioned in section 2.1 of the User's Guide:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou432a/slou432a.pdf#page=5

In GUI mode, you are able to generate multiple waveforms in different intensity and time.

    2.We want to simulate some haptic effects,such as fishing,racing,drinking water,throwing plugs,eating chicken,shooting,explosion,and so on.can I choose these waveforms?

Similarly to previous question, you would need of the GUI to try to simulate the effects that you mentioned. You can play with the different 123 library waveforms or even use external PWM signals to generate the waveform that you are looking for.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis

1.As shown in the red box below, why can't it be set as USB all the time?

2.How to access 123 waveform library? How to access 123 waveform Library in LRA library?I can't play it according to the instructions.

    What is the mode 31(11111'b)?

  • Hi,

Please take a look at my responses below and let me know if you have additional questions or comments on this.

1.As shown in the red box below, why can't it be set as USB all the time?

The DRV2625EVM-CT needs to be configured in GUI mode before opening the GUI. As mentioned in section 3.3 of the User's Guide, the EVM needs to access to GUI mode by holding down the '+' button for approximately 3 seconds.

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou432a/slou432a.pdf#page=8

Once the EVM enters in GUI mode, you should be able to see the EVM detected in the GUI main window.

2.How to access 123 waveform library? How to access 123 waveform Library in LRA library?I can't play it according to the instructions.

The 123 LRA waveform library can be accessed in closed loop only. You would need to select the LRA mode in the GUI and then the closed loop as shown in the picture below. The 123 effects can be displayed in the subtabs of the internal trigger section:

    3. What is the mode 31(11111'b)?

Mode 31 is only used to verify the device details such device ID, silicon revision and code revision. This is just for information purposes. The device ID version can be also found in status register (0x00).

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis,

1.I still can't set it as USB, is it related to FW(My FW is the initial)? Are there setup steps?

2.How to set it to 31 mode? What's the indication?

  • Hi,

I have additional questions about this.

    - Which Windows version are you using?

    - Are you using the USB2ANY tool?

    - How the EVM jumpers are configured?

    - In the Haptics Control Console, if you go to the Help Tab, then to the Firmware Update option, are you able to update the firmware?

Regarding your question about the mode 31, you would need to access to the Binary counting mode first as mentioned in the User's Guide. Once the EVM is powered up, you would need to press and hold the increment mode button ('+') for approximately 3 seconds until the mode LEDs flash and the colored LEDs flash once. You would need to repeat this action one more time. Then, you would be in the binary counting mode. Finally, select the "demo" modes using the '+' and '-' buttons. You would be in mode 31 until the mode LEDs are in 11111. For more details, please go to section 3.1 of the User's Guide:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou348b/slou348b.pdf#page=14

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis

    - Which Windows version are you using?

    Windows 10.

    - Are you using the USB2ANY tool?

    No,I'm using micro USB connect.

    - How the EVM jumpers are configured?

    - In the Haptics Control Console, if you go to the Help Tab, then to the Firmware Update option, are you able to update the firmware?

As below,I'm able to update the FW.

    2.About 31 mode:

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, the Haptics Control Console (HCC) is not fully supported by Windows 10. You would require of an USB2ANY in order to support all the characteristics of the DRV2605EVM-CT in GUI mode. As mentioned in the HCC User's Guide, this tool is required when the DRV2605EVM-CT is being used:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou502a/slou502a.pdf#page=2

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis

    which Windows is it supporting?

  • After FW used USB2ANY,I still can't set it as USB using USB2ANY

  • Hi,

Could you provide details on how are you connecting the USB2ANY? You must modify the jumpers MSP and DRV in order to power on the device from VBAT. The USB cable shouldn't be connected to the EVM when the USB2ANY is connected to the I2C lines.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis,

which Windows version is it supporting?

  • Hi,

This application was originally developed for Windows 7. The next versions are also supported but sometimes they present some configuration issues.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis,

Because there are few win7 environments,Have you tried to use it on Windows 10?

    Are the following configurations correct?

  • Hi,

Yes, let me do a correction on my previous posts. When the USB2ANY tool is used on the EVM works correctly on Windows 10, the issues come when the EVM is not used with the USB2ANY.

However, I noticed that you have connected the USB2ANY to the SBW pins directly. I would suggest to connect them to the I2C pins.

The power pins are correctly connected to VBAT connector.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments on this.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Luis,

1.According to the figure below,,USB2ANY is not required to access ROM Library Mode.

2.Can the USB2ANY connect to SBW pins only be used to update FW?

3.The following configuration still does not set it to USB.

  • Hi,

SBW pin is only used for FW update.
From your HCC capture, it seems your USB2ANY firmware is not updated. It says "onedemo device"

  • Hi Luis

What I care about most is how to set it as USB? Please help.

  • You should follow instructions from section 6 from this appnote to update the firmware of the USB2ANY board.
Once firmware is updated, you should be able to connect it to Haptics Control Console.
