DRV8402 help

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8412

Hi everybody,

I've made a schematic driver control motor use DRV8402/32 but i have problem. With motor DC small my schematic run OK, but normal and large motor  not OK. DRV die half bridge.current maximum of startup my motor is 10A, I think my schematic not true. And my schematic have problem : First : I use PWM A control OUT A,B;PWMB control OUT C,D .But I use one PWMA ,PWMB not use(not connect) but still motor run???I don't understand! help me!

The PVDD&VDD isolation GVDD ????

file my schematic :2117.H BRIDGE DRV8432ngly.pdf

thanks

  • Mr. Thanh,

Please reference figure 9 on page 15 of the DRV8412/32 datasheet.  This is the schematic for a parallel, BTL (PBTL) connection as you show in your schematic.

One potential problem is how the MODE pins are connected.  Please reference the table on page 3.  For PBTL mode, the following modes should be set: M2 = VREG, M1 = M3 = GND.  With this mode setting, PWMA will control OUTA, OUTB.  PWMB will control operation of OUTC and OUTD.

Also, please change the Bootstrap capacitors (pins 20, 27,28, 35) to 100nF.  They are shown as 100pF in your schematic which is too small.

If this doesn't help, we can continue to debug.  Let me know.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Thanh, I see problems in your schematic for DRV8432 (DRV8402 schematic does not show component values.)  Your schematic shows 100pF for the 4 BST (bootstrap) caps at pins 20, 27, 28 and 35.  This cannot work, because these small caps will discharge too quickly to keep high side drivers turned on.  Also, I do not see large enough decoupling capacitors to stabilize PVDD at any current close to 10A or even to stabilize VDD or GVDD.

Please work with a DRV8402 EVM, or at least the users guide SLOU251B.  Please study the components in the EVM and use the same components in your circuit.  (DRV8432 EVM should be available in the first quarter of next year.)

Your schematics are wired for PFB (parallel full bridge) mode.  Please make sure you are using correct MODE pin settings (page 3 of DRV8402 data sheet SLES222 or page 3 of DRV8432 data sheet SLES242C) and inputs (page 12 of SLES222 and page 13 of SLES242C).

I do not understand your question "The PVDD&VDD isolation GVDD ????"

If you have more questions it will be very helpful to provide waveforms of the signals you are describing.

    Regards,

    Steve.
