DRV8306: Functionality Inquiry

Part Number: DRV8306

Hi Team, please allow me to clarify this inquiry from our customer, does this device supports control both speed control and rotor position control. Also do we need external driver for the load current <10A.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Mark,

The DRV8306 controls the commutation of the motor not the speed or rotor position. The device takes in a PWM command and this determines how much voltage is applied to the motor and therefor how much current is applied to the motor. This current determines how much torque the motor generates. The more torque the motor generates the faster the motor will spin. The PWM in is like the throttle on a car, it indirectly controls the torque of the motor not the speed or position.

What do you mean by "do we need external driver for the load current <10A." The DRV8306 is an external driver.

    Regards,

    Michael
