DRV8873-Q1: Current Sensing in High-Side Recirculation

Part Number: DRV8873-Q1

Hello,

When IPROPI1 and IPROPI2 pins of DRV8873S-Q1 are tied together as shown in Figure 14 in order to measure a motor current, how can a current in high-side recirculation mode be measured at the pins? Will it be double the current? Or, will it be cancelled to zero?

Best regards,
Shinichi Yokota

  • Yokota-san:

In Figure 14. configuration, the current-sense output is proportional to the sum of the currents flowing through the both high-side FETs when that FET is on.

If the FET is off,  IPROPIx cannot measure the FET current.

  • Yokota-san,

If both FETs are on, I would think the IIPROPIx can only show the current flow from Drain to source. So, IPROPIx output in Figure 14 would only show SH1 top FET's current when the current flows as loop 2 direction.
