DRV8432: No intentional freewheel with DRV8432. Short circuiting a DC-Motor

Part Number: DRV8432

Dear TI Team,

according to the manual, I can not intentionally run a motor current over the body diodes in the freewheel, but can operate the motor either in clockwise, anticlockwise or short circuit. Can I safely operate a motor between clockwise and short-circuit without paying attention to diode reverse recovery, or the load on the motor due to the short circuit?

Yours sincerely

Franz Braun

  • Hi Franz,

If you mean both outputs low (also referred to as slow decay) when you say short-circuit in the question above, the answer is yes.

The device is designed to PWM between driver (clockwise/counterclockwise) and slow decay (outputs low).
