I received the following request on DRV8874-Q1:

If I understand correctly, beyond the heat dissipation the device can pull for a limited period 6A!

I see that the gain error is defined only up to IOUT <4A.

Does this mean that over 4A there is no information or that the IOUT read cannot be greater than 4A?

Anyway the device can read till 6A, correct?

We don't have data from design simulation in the region from 0 to 1A and from 4A to 6A that we can share?

Hi Fabio,

Although OCP is higher, thermal limitations will likely keep the device below 3-A RMS.

We do not have data above 4 A.

Hi Fabio,

It is holiday season now. Let me try to help answer those question.

a. If the load is higher than 4A, the gain error would be smaller than 4A spec. You can use 4A gain error data to do the worst case analysis.

b. The thermal impedance should be same if the load current RMS value is same. The thermal impedance is also related to the layout and board material. In the datasheet, the thermal resistance is provided.
