Hello Team,

I'm Yuta Kurimoto FAE from TIJ.

Now our customer will plan to evaluate DRV8873-Q1. Their application draws inrush current when starting up.

They request our device to output 10A. The duration should be more than 0.1s. Ta is 60C.

Q. In case of H-bridge mode(Forward drive : HS1 and LS2 FET are ON), is it possible to output the current?

Q. In case of independent half bridge mode and driving two high-side loads(Low-side drive : LS1 FET and LS2 FET are ON), is it possible to output the current?

Can you specify how long the duration is exactly?

Is the customer willing to turn OCP off momentarily?

Hi Hector,

In customer's system, the duration of output current pulse is 0.1s.

Yes, It may need to turn OCP off momentarily, it is possible?

0.1s pulse is much longer than the maximum OCP deglitch time. We cannot turn off OCP function. Please check

Please check http://www.ti.com/motor-drivers/overview.html to find other5 higher current device to fit your application. Some devices can support parallel mode to support 10A; Some devices have external FET to support high current application.

The I(ocp) value was specified @Ta=25C, VM=13.5V.

Is the I(ocp) value changed by temperature? If yes, can you share the I(ocp) vs temperature(-40C to 125C) data?

Hi Kurimoto-san,

It is possible to run the device at 10A for 0.1s at Ta = 60 C.

Can you confirm if the customer will use DRV8873S-Q1? The OCP can be disabled on the S device but not on the H device.

For best thermals: please, use 2-ounce copper thickness, a good heat sinking profile, and a large thermal pad to a dedicated ground plane for optimal thermal performance.
