DRV8305: About DRV8305 control signal pin's logic level & input current.

Part Number: DRV8305

Hi Sir,

Customer has some question about DRV8305NQ.

MCU & DRV's power supply is 5V.

1) When MCU output signal to DRV, how about  logic-level INPUT 's current? like INHA, INLA, INHB, INLB, INHC,....

2) nFault & PWRGD pin is open drain. why here still has voltage maximum data? Does it mean it is not true open drain?

3) Now DRV's VREG is power supplied by external 5V (Same with MCU). Whil SDO pin's minimum VOH is 2.4V. For 5V powered MCU, it will recognize signal as high levlel when input >0.7VDD (3.5V). Does it mean, here are some risk MCU will not identify high level when DRV output HIGH ~ 2.4V?

Best regards

Jacky

  • Hi Jacky,

    1) When MCU output signal to DRV, how about  logic-level INPUT 's current? like INHA, INLA, INHB, INLB, INHC,....

Here is a diagram to better understand the INPUTs logic(INHA, INLA, .....)

The 100K ohm should not matter much when you are applying a logic low or logic high because it is so large of a resistance.

    2) nFault & PWRGD pin is open drain. why here still has voltage maximum data? Does it mean it is not true open drain?

I agree with you, the spec is a little hard to understand, I will talk to my team and get you a clearer answer. The pin is an open drain output so it should have a logic high of a resistance number rather than a voltage number.

I need to check with the rest of the team and get back to you.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Jacky,

I discussed the questions you raised with my team. The datasheet of the DRV8305 has an error in it. If you look at the DRV8305-Q1 datasheet the table is much clearer:

the nFAULT pin has a max pull down of 7mA and we do not spec a VOH for it because it is an open drain output.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Michael,

    Clearly, thanks.

    Best regards
