DRV8703-Q1: motor driver

Part Number: DRV8703D-Q1

I have a question about DRV8703. If the pin 23 (SL2) floating will motor still can rotate in one direction? Or the motor don’t run at all? I mean H bridge drive. If motor don’t run due to pin 23 floating can you explain why?

  • Yini,

DRV8702 pin 23 is SL2 pin and should be connect this pin to the low-side FET source. According to kirchhoff's current law, SL2 current should match GL2 current. If SL2 is floating, the original SL2 current would flow back to IC from SN pin. That gives two concerns:

    a. more noise on current sensing

    b. potential SP pin over voltage stress if the sense resistor is not soldering good.

The motor could still rotate. But, due the above 2 concerns, I would recommend connect Pin 23 SL2 to the low-side FET's source.

  • Thank you for your response. I only have one more question: if pin 23 (SL2) is floating besides what you mentioned the issue the device could generator over current fault due to the pin floating? if that is true then gate drive is disabled? motor won't running?

    thanks
