DRV8302: DRV 8302 Gate outputs destroyed

Hello,

This is my first design with a DRV8302 Driver. At the moment i use trapezoidal commutation, with 6 PWM Channels (very high dead time for testing). The BLDC Motor is free running at the moment, with no load. If the operating voltage is below 38V the motor runs properly with 600mA current consumption . But if i increase the operating voltage a little bit above 38V, the motor stops and the DRV 8302 is defective. ( Several gate driver outputs are shorted to GND). The Mosfets are still okay. I double checked the correct mounting and the correct component values but i can’t find any mistake. It is ensured that the exposed pad of DRV 8302 is properly connected to ground. Does someone have any advice, what could be wrong? I often had problems with spikes, but not in free running with 600mA current consumption. Attached, there are 2 parts of the schematic.

Thanks for posting on the MD forum!

Have you tried more than one board or more than one IC?

Have you checked for spikes near the DRV on the GL, GH, SH, and SL lines for all three half bridges?

Hello Adam,

thanks for your reply.

Now, i used another board . The ic was replaced 3 times.The Picture above shows one of the gate Driver signals (Hiside and Loside) . With this board the maximum operating voltage was 42V (See Picture above).

After i tried with 48V the IC was destroyed with the first (small) PWM pulse. Now, the outputs are not shorted to GND but GVDD is now only 2V.

Please indicate to me which signal is the HS and which is the LS on your plot above.

Hello,

not at the moment. But i think the loop between the supply voltage and GND is much too big and causes spikes.

I am designing a new PCB at the moment and i will ask again if further issues appear.
