DRV8353R: Buck regulator issues and proper PCB layout question

Part Number: DRV8353R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD19532Q5B

Hello, I'm a member of a student project team and we attempted to design brushless motor controllers using the DRV8353R gate driver. We used the PCB layout reference design in the datasheet of the chip, but we had issues where we would seemingly destroy the buck regulator and had issues where somehow shorted a high side gate to ground, ending up with a lower impedence than what we expected. We aren't exactly sure what the issue were, but we redesigned the buck circuit and used smaller fets, we were wondering if we could have someone look over our designs before we sent them out. Thanks for any help that can be provided!
