DRV8836: Output Capacitance or Charge

Part Number: DRV8836

The DRV8836 datasheet does not appear to specify the output capacitance (e.g. Cds) of the bridge and/or the FETs used within the IC.

We are using the DRV8836 as the first stage of an inverter. Due to efficiency constraints we need to operate the inverter in Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) mode, likely by adding a resonant inductor in series with the bridge's output. Specifying the inductance required is dependent on the bridge's output capacitance.

Can TI provide an estimate at least of the output capacitance of the DRV8836? Either for 1 of the bridges or both of them in parallel?

Thanks in advance!

  • Another question, when using PH/EN mode, what is the dead time between one side's high-side switch turning OFF and the other side's high-side switch turning ON? I assume there is some delay here to prevent shoot-through? Thanks again!

  • Hi John,

Sorry, the Cds or output capacitance information is not available.

The dead time is listed in the datasheet as 100ns typical. This is the time between one FET turning off (high side or low side) and the opposite FET (low side or high side) of the same output turning on.
