CCS/DRV8833: How to detect the moto stall status in DRV8833

I use the DRV8833 in my smart lock project, and i need to know the moto is stall or not.

Here is my design

and here is DRV_NFAULT(Green color) and R44 (Yellow one) voltage in moto running/stall

The DRV_nFault does not output the low voltage during the moto stalling.

So, how to detect the moto stall status?

If the lock current through motor windings exceeded IOCP (min.2A) for longer than tDEG, then OCP will be triggered and nFault will pull down. In your case, the lock current will be limited by current regulation determined by RSENSE which is below 2A. If you would like lock to trigger OCP, you may short xISEN to GND to disable the current regulation.

Hi Alvin,

I short the xISEN to GND, and found the current is about 1.3A, less than 2A.

So, what can the DRV8833 help me to detect moto stall?

Hello, Joe

In that case, DRV8833 won't report nFault even the motor is locked.

I would suggest you to try DRV8832. It allows you to set current regulation level and report nFault when it's triggered.
