DRV8350H-EVM: DRV8350x-EVM Sensored Software User's Guide

Part Number: DRV8350H-EVM

Hello , about the doc--"DRV8350x-EVM Sensored Software User's Guide" , I have one question /

In the chapter :2.1 Motor Position Detection  writes:

After the controller determines which edge has been detected, it computes the time elapsed since the last detected edge and commutates the respective phase.

So why the "computes the time elapsed since the last detected edge "  is needed ? I just think the controller just need to know  the previous hall state  and the current hall state , then the can determine the phase .

So i am confuse about the "computes the time elapsed since the last detected edge " .

Look forward to your reply .

Thanks
