DRV8912-Q1EVM: Serial connection is failed

Part Number: DRV8912-Q1EVM

I have installed the app. (Pic1)

The Serial is active set for 9600 baud, but no connection,

Solution?

Thanks, Csaba

  • Hi Csaba,

Please confirm the correct serial port is connected by using device manager.

Once the serial port is identified in device manager, please make confirm the serial port is selected in the Options -> Serial Port pulldown of the GUI.

If you are still having a problem, please capture the entire GUI screen.

Are you using Windows 7 or Windows 10?

  • Every setup is fine.

    Then no connection.

The Hw looks good, VM led is on, Status led flasing about 1 sec.

I am trying on a Win7, but I can do it on a Win 10 too.

Could I have a schematics for this EVM?

    Best regards, Csaba

  • Hi Rick,

    The same issue on Win10.

    Thanks, Csaba

  • Hi Csaba,

Sorry for the delay. I tried to connect the EVM today, but found my USB cable was the problem. When the cable was replaced, I was able to connect.

The schematics are available online at  Scroll down to the design files to find the schematic and layout.

  • Hi Rick,

My cable is fine, I get the COM port in the device manager in Win7 and Win10 too.

I use FTDI converter for other devices to connect without problem, but still the driver could be different.

    Which driver you use?

    I found the Schema.

    Best regards, Csaba

  • Hi Csaba,

Please see the driver information below:

Also once the EVM is connected via the USB cable, please try to re-initiate the connection by clicking the ( ) icon at the bottom left of the GUI.

If successful, the Error message should disappear and a "Hardware Connected"  message should appear.

FYI -- clicking this icon when the hardware is connected will disconnect the hardware.

  • Hi Rick,

    I have newer FTDI driver:

    Date: 8/16/2017

    Version: 2.12.28.0

I have used the icon before, the same result: short "Connecting to target" message, then "Hardware not Connected"

USB connection is detected on the PC.

The status led is flashing, so the MCU is working.

What can be done to get it work?

    Csaba

  • Hi Csaba,

I am not sure what can be done.

You can try uninstalling the driver and installing the older version that we used.

  • Dear Rick,

    Your version is very old.

Even on my Win7 is a newer 2.12.24.

And on the net this is the latest I found to download.

I think I don't want to continue the experiment with this board, I will create the pcb what I wanted to evaluate and I try with my firmware.

I want to return the EVM board, how to do it?

    Best Regards, Csaba

  • Hi Csaba,

    You have two choices:

    1) If you want to return, please see the link:  which contains information on how to return.

    2) You can disconnect the GUI and mcu from the DRV8912-Q1EVM and connect your mcu to the J8 header to begin evaluations while you build your PCB.
