DRV8313: Electrostatic Discharge Caution

Hi,

We are using DRV8313PWP in our new design. We have made 7 prototype pcbs from 4 revisions. 3 of the 7 pcbs had faulty DRV8313PWP after test.

I read the datasheet again I found below:

11.4 Electrostatic Discharge Caution

These devices have limited built-in ESD protection. The leads should be shorted together or the device placed in conductive foam during storage or handling to prevent electrostatic damage to the MOS gates.

I am wondering if there is another IC similar to DRV8313PWP with better ESD protection?

Thanks for posting on the MD forum!

Could you tell us your Motor voltage? Motor current?

Do you suspect ESD damage to the DRV8313?

Hi Adam,

Motor voltage 12V, Nominal current 2.14A.

Yes. I suspect the faulty ICs got damaged by ESD, as I replaced the faulty IC with a new one, and everything works.

I have attached the circuit diagram, if possible could you please check if there is anything wrong in the circuit which can cause some of ICs stop working?

Also I noticed that I can buy DRV8383PWP from TI web. I am in Australia. If I order 2, how long do you think I can receive it at this special time?

I'm not confident on your output inductor but the rest of the circuit looks fine.

I cannot comment on device shipping and lead times, please contact customer service about this.

For that power level you could use one of our newer integrated FET devices in the DRV10 family, I will tag my colleague to help.

Hi Jenny,

The only device in DRV10x family that can drive your motor is DRV10987. This device can support up to 2A (RMS) continuous current. Is the 2.14A motor current peak or RMS value? If it is peak current, then you can use this device. If not then you may have to limit the load on the motor to match 2A RMS current. Below is the recommended application range for this device.
