DRV10974: Question for DRV10974

Part Number: DRV10974

Hi Team,

Customer used DRV10974 external drive motor. After the chip is powered on, the brushless motor started to accelerate at soft start. After the acceleration phase ended, the speed immediately became zero. After restarting the acceleration, the brushless motor could not maintain stable rotation. Customer would like to know what could be the reason for this?

Thanks,

Annie

  • Hi Annie,

Thanks for posting your question in MD forum. Looks like the device is stuck in open loop and unable to transition to closed-loop. IS the customer using DRV10974EVM or a custom board? First thing I would like to check is to make sure the motor that is used falls within the recommended application range shown in below table :

Next, I would recommend to check the tuning guide which explains two ways to tune the motor (Quick tuning and comprehensive tuning). The goal of quick tuning is to get the motor running quickly by inferring usable resistor values for the current (CS pin), lead time (ADV pin), and acceleration profile (RMP pin). Please check the comprehensive tuning section if the motor performance is not satisfactory after following the recommendations in Quick tuning section.

    Regards,

    Vishnu

  • Hi Vishnu.

This is custom board. I have shared the document and he will review it first.

Additionally, he also would like to know why the chip is hot when the RCS resistor is configured to 115K?

    Thanks,

    Annie

  • Hi Annie,

I would recommend to follow the Layout guidelines in section 10 in the datasheet . Also, we recommend referring to the document explaining the best Practices for Board Layout of Motor Drivers

    Regards,

    Vishnu
