DRV8308EVM: DRV8308 EVM serial connection problem

Part Number: DRV8308EVM

When I start this up the serial options are greyed out and not selectable.  At the bottom I get a continuous status of ' connecting to TI cloud agent ...'  Is that supposed to resolve somehow?  Does it need a firewall exception or something?

I don't see any USB devices in device manager that show as problems.  There is a USB serial port (COM5) present, but no others.

How do I resolve this?  Thanks.

  • David,

Thanks for posting on the MD forum!

Which exact version of the GUI and installer are you using?

If you unplug and replug the EVM USB cable with the board powered, which device comes and goes on the device manager screen?

    Regards,

    -Adam

  • USB port COM5 comes and goes with the EVM.

    GUIComposerApp-0.1.0.setup-win_2.0.4.exe

    gcruntime-2.0.0-windows-installer.exe

  • David,

Please try the online version of the GUI located here:

  • TI links are not working.  That page just opens blank.  Cannot access login page anymore.  Running the online gui from the  product page does not work anymore either.  I'm having a terrible time getting any of the TI eval SW I am trying working for the past couple weeks.  It's just one thing after another.

It would be really great to have this working by tomorrow because motors are coming in and there will be pressure to get some answers.

    Thanks.

  • David,

Have you tried another browser? Are you logging in using your TI account?

    Regards,

    -Adam

  • I tried Edge and the links are scrambled up on that one.

I didn't have Chrome so I tried Brave and that worked well and all the extensions loaded and the Cloud agent.  It sees the com port 5 under serial connections.  At the bottom it says connected to TI cloud agent, and Connecting to target...    but never seems to connect to the target.  I tried communicating by doing a read all registers but nothing populated on the screen.

I installed Chrome and went through the same thing and got to the same place trying to connect to target.

How can I get some response from the EVM to confirm it's connected?  Haven't got to the point of connecting a motor yet.

The latest version of Firefox, though listed as an approved browser, just opens a blank page when I try to start the online EVM from here:  www.ti.com/.../DRV8308EVM

So I have progress but still looks like no communication with the EVM?

After getting the cloud agent installed through these pages I tried the PC app again, but it still hangs on connecting to cloud agent and shows serial ports greyed out.

  • We are discussing this offline with the customer and will respond here once our debug is complete.

The customer was able to run the EVM on a second PC but we are still debugging the first PC.

    Regards,

    -Adam

  • Installation of the TI Cloud agent did not complete successfully which was causing the issue, uninstall and reinstall of the TI cloud agent software fixed the issue.

  • I had tried to install the PC app first, but had numerous issues getting the GUI and cloud agent going.  This effort seems to have left some debris in my system that also prevented the web app from running properly.  After some effort to manually remove all the previous installed stuff and then run the web app again it began to work.

I think TI advises to use the web app, not the PC app, as support effort is focused on the web app.
