DRV8350: The feature of Smart gate drive function

Part Number: DRV8350

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DRV8350?

We have heard followings;
If the high side FET's short occurs, it requires to turn off both side FETs.
In case of Smart gate drive function, it is possible to turn the FETs off safely.
Is our recognition correct?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Matsumoto-San,

    Yes, if a fault is detected the DRV disables all output FETs by turning them off. To make sure that we do not cause a large voltage transient when the large current is shut off we intentionally use a low IDRIVE setting to force the output FETs off. If a high IDRIVE setting is used the inductance in the output stage would keep the current flowing and voltage would spike if the FETs are shut off quickly.
