DRV8811: DRV8818 random stop

Part Number: DRV8818

Hello,

We have problem with a DRV8818 stopping randomly sometimes, it can work perfectly some hours, but sometimes  we see the steeper motor stopped, when we check the outputs they seems all disconnect (AOUT1 , AOUT2 in high impedance ) After restarting the device, (unplug the supply) it work again fine perfectly for some hours.

DRV8818 part number is :  DRV8818 98TG5 CFC4

Do you have an idea of the source of the problem ?

Here the voltage on the current sense resistor, current go up to 3,6 A when the winding is first activated, could it be the the blanking time that is too low ?

Temperature seems fine..

Thanks for your help

  • Have to add that the signal taken on the current sense resistor is noisy but the ground wire of the probe was used to take the mesure, its hard to use something shorter inside the application.

On the board we use many of theses drivers and every other motors runs fine during hours, the problem is specific to this driver.

  • Thyrion,

For thermal shutdown, once the die temperature has fallen to a safe level operation resumes.

"when we check the outputs, they seems all disconnect (AOUT1 , AOUT2 in high impedance ). After restarting the device, (unplug the supply) it work again fine perfectly for some hours".

It seems an overcurrent protection event. What is the motor winding full scale current setting and VREF voltage?
