DRV10983: Bldc Motor needs external push to rotate

Part Number: DRV10983

Hello Team TI,

1) Currently i'm seeing problem on my Bldc Ceiling fan is, Once powered OFF from main switch and powered ON again motor does not rotate.

But with little bit of external push motor starts rotating.

And if i do same procedure, 6 out of 10 times same thing happen.

What could be the reason behind this...!!?

My tuning parameters are...

0x46, 0x5D, 0x2A, 0x08, 0xD0, 0xFE, 0x7A, 0xF9, 0x0F, 0xF7, 0xFF, 0x0E

2) And i've also read MotorSpeed1 and MotorSpeed2 parameter At the time of power ON it is showing 16383 decimal value.

But with small external push on motor this same value reduce down to 10-50 around.

And if i disable ISDen then motor does not need external push to rotate, But with ISDen enabled motor won't rotate without external push.

  • Hi Vrajesh,

Thanks for posting your question in MD forum. Are you turning on the power while the motor is coasting or stationary? Can you share the motor parameters such as maximum speed, pole pairs, stator resistance and BEMF constant? Also, the tuning parameters are without the register address. Can you provide the register address for all register values? I'm thinking this could be related to ISD and tuning the ISD parameters might help resolve this issue.

    Regards,

    Vishnu.

  • Hello Vishnu,

I'm turning on the power while the motor is stationary.

And that's where problem is arriving. If motor is coasting then there is no issue.

    Maximum speed =400 rpm.

No of Permanent magnet = 8

No of cooper winding poles = 18

Resistance between two phases = 3.2 ohm

    BEMF = 380mV/Hz around

Tuning parameters of EEPROM from starting address of 0x20 to 0x2B are:

    0x46, 0x5D, 0x2A, 0x08, 0xD0, 0xFE, 0x7A, 0xF9, 0x0F, 0xF7, 0xFF, 0x0E

  • Hi Vrajesh,

Thanks for sharing the details. Did you try increasing the initial speed detect threshold? This will allow more time for the device to detect if there is any zero crossing in BEMF.

    Regards,

    Vishnu

  • Hi Vrajesh,

I will close this for now, since I haven't heard a response back. If you want a follow-up, please feel free to reply to this thread or create a new thread.
