Hi i am an engineering student and i am trying to figure out what are the exact inputs that the motor driver.

Does it require 3 pwms with a 120 phase delay between each other on the PWM_X pins or is there something else that it requires

Nikolai,

This is one of the requirements. You will also need to control some GPIO pins for things like RESET, and monitor the FAULT and OTW pins.

The datasheet shows this in the block diagram.

Hi, thanks for your quick response.

in order to have a varying speed, would i then need to feed different duty cycles (with a phase difference of 120) on the PWM_x right? if so is it possible to tell me where i can find some more information on this apart from the data sheet please?

Nikolai,

Yes different duty cycle would be used to increase the current out to the motor.

I would recommend ordering an EVM and using that as your starting point. A driver like the DRV8323 (useful for motors up to ~30V) has a nice EVM that you could setup and use within minutes:
