DRV8876-Q1: Help recommend right device to drive DC motor in electronic lock

Hi Expert,

I need a Q1 level(use for auto) motor driver device to drive the DC motor in electronic lock.

I only need a +12V output to open the lock motor, and a -12V output to close the lock motor, 2A~3A load current, seems many motor driver devices are suitable. I found DRV8876-Q1, DRV8801-Q1 and many Q1 DRV devices in TI products.

1.Can you help recommend the most suitable device for above application? Need Q1 level. Many thanks!

2.And as DRV device are Half bridge or full bridge in side, can TI DRV motor driver be used as a level shift from 28V IO input signal to 3.3V IO signal? Because there is no level shift logic device can convert 28V IO input to 3.3V IO input.

Hi Rachel,

None of our devices (that I know of) will accept a +/- 12V input to control direction. They will either accept standard logic levels (typically 1.8, 3.3 or 5V based on the datasheet), or I2C/ SPI. If you have +/-12V control signals, use discrete FETs to translate to a suitable logic level.
